In 1977, the Hamil family opened Hamil’s Restaurant on Hwy 51 in Madison, MS, with a 50 person seating capacity in the log cabin. The business plan was simple. Feed hungry folks good food at a reasonable price. In 1994, Bob Hamil took over management of the restaurant. In 2007, Bob opened Mama Hamil’s Southern Cooking & BBQ, Inc., at our current location, just behind that little log cabin.
The business plan remains the same and business is booming. Hamil’s offers an in house buffet of traditional Southern comfort food, each dish prepared with love as Grandma would have done, from tried and true recipes handed down through the generations. The atmosphere is friendly and bustling. The walls are decorated with history and reflect love of country, faith and family.
Community is fostered when you choose to seat yourself at the long tables and get to know your neighbor over a tall glass of iced tea and a plate brimming with the best vittles around.
Our customers are our extended family and as such, have braggin’ rights. They haven’t been quiet and we’ve been blessed to have been recognized repeatedly in the Jackson Free Press, the Clarion Ledger, and Mississippi Magazine as having been voted the Best Buffet, the Best Meal for the Money, and the Best Soul Food, just to name a few. Stop on by and tell us what your favorite dish is – the rutabagas? Mac and Cheese? BBQ? Chicken & Dumplings? Peach Cobbler? Enjoy the fresh veggies from our hydroponic garden when in season.
